1What Is Sora?

Sora was OpenAI’s generative video-and-audio product for creating short scenes from written or visual instructions. Sora 2 was presented as more controllable and physically accurate than the earlier system, with synchronized dialogue and sound effects, while still remaining imperfect.

Important current status: OpenAI discontinued the Sora web and app experiences on April 26, 2026, and says the Sora API will be discontinued on September 24, 2026. This lesson teaches the documented Sora workflow as transferable AI-video production knowledge; learners should not expect new product access.
